By Friday, July 16th, the end of the summer course of School of Rock, I will achieve great progress from near completion or full completion on my personal projects and my collaborative team project respectively. I will utilize my learned skills from the lectures of this class, from instrumental tutorials to composition lectures. The projects comprise instrumental covers, collaborative compositions, and enhanced instrumental skills.
July 9th Work
I was able to continue that progress and get to the second section of a song and prepare sheet music for recording my instruments for another song. I was also able to learn more music theory on how to use diminished chords in composition and experimented with the ideas with my instruments. I could use this newly obtained skill in my new compositions as I accelerate through my journey in music.
July 12th Work
I learned a lot more about the technological and mechanical components of musical recording. I learned about how to calibrate and test microphones in preparation for recording and choosing for my special needs. I was also able to expand my knowledge of music theory by exploring and identifying chords and, what I call, complex chords. Today was all about acceleration on learning new things and progress on my projects.
July 13th Work
This is what I have so far in my cover + composition. As you can see, a new section can be seen entering measure 19. I learned a lot about how these correlate with one another with the use of further and external perspectives.
July 14th Work
This is what I worked on for today, I was able to finish up the introduction for all instruments on articulation, dynamics, and rhythm. This takes a LOT longer considering the fact that this cover has a total of 24 instruments, whereas what I showed the previous day merely had 8 instruments.
July 15th Work
Since today was pretty much a practice day, I decided to show what I plan to put my recording in for my cover. I transcribed and arranged the cover myself a while back, and it’s also currently a work in progress as well. My goal is to at least get major progress to potentially near completion for these projects since they not only take so long but are in large quantities as well. For the other components of my goal, I already contributed by helping and collaborating with colleagues on musical composition. I was also able to complete all learned material from engaging in this class, such as ways to be more creative with the guitar in composition.
July 16th Work
This is one of my completed works as a final product to demonstrate my capabilities with my newly learned instruments. The song contains 100% of my playing regarding instruments without looping. I was able to compose a bassline and reimagine the song as my version since no part of the piece is exactly like the original.
Though, this is merely one of my completed projects. The rest of them will be presented in class or posted here in the future. Those other projects include Eterna City (Day) Cover.
Oddvontore Tom (Adventure Time Intro Parody)
Training Resources
I learned how to navigate and utilize the features of Soundtrap, Hooktheory, Edublogs, and Songsterr.
Reactions to the Final Version
Jessica – Enjoyed how different it felt due to my own style and variation
Sofi – Strumming style impacts listener
Dolan – Gives reminders to another song and style
Self-Evaluation of Final Version
I was able to convey a theme and a style utilizing variation and creative techniques with instruments and how they can be used.
Grammar and Spelling
I used the Grammarly extension.
Editor
My neighboring classmate Lexy generously revised my page, ensuring the complete removal of all grammatical errors.
