SUMMARY
We were able to explore further musical composition and chord progressions. Would we be able to compose an interesting melody with a correlating harmony? Read on to find out more!
CLASSROOM
Watch How Harmony Works (47 minutes)
- Music Harmony started as an immovable “Drone”
- This Drone evolved to be movable and adaptive
- Eventually, it turned into Chords
- Then evolved to chord progressions
LAB
I was able to explore popular chord progressions and improvise and experiment with the progressions.
PRACTICE ROOM
- Since I am already experienced with guitar, the quizlets went by exceptionally easily
OUTSIDE / JOURNAL / IDEAS
We then went for a walk outside, I contemplated about the Tonic (1 chord) and the Dominant (5 chord) and how they create this push and pull, tension, and release feel in composition as I play around with my ukulele experimenting with the thought out chords.
- Tonic (1 and 8 chords)
- Root note creates a feeling of resolution and stability
- Supertonic, Mediant, Submediant (2, 3, 6 chords)
- Moderate tension, useful for transitions
- Dominant, Subdominant, Leading Tone (4, 5, 7 chords)
- Create lots of tension to get to the tonic

STUDIO
- We proceeded to watch this informative video by Jake Lizzio.
I played along with my ukulele and immediately learned the instrument and its chords in merely 30 seconds.
CONTROL ROOM
- We then experimented with instruments in soundtrap as I played around with the ukulele, guitar, and bass.
WHAT I LEARNED and PROBLEMS I SOLVED
Today I was able to further explore new instruments. I learned the ukulele immediately and embarked on my journey with the electric bass. I made a mini song in soundtrap and inputted some recordings. I was able to continue my collaboration with my group, showing my skills with my experience with composition.
